The City of Chesterfield's building permits page says the City contracts with St. Louis County for permitting and inspection services. Chapter 1116 of the St. Louis County code, the county's Residential Code, adopts the International Residential Code for One- and Two-Family Dwellings, 2015 edition, with the county's additions, deletions and changes (O. No. 27654, 12-18-19); we did not find an effective date in the text we read. Section 1116.050 of the county code says a municipality may not contract with the County for enforcement until it has adopted legislation authorizing the contract and a code identical in substance to the county's. We could not read Chesterfield's own code, so this page does not quote the City's adoption ordinance.
Section 1116.115 of the county code amends the residential code's exhaust chapter: dryer exhaust ducts must be supported at intervals not to exceed 12 feet and secured in place (M1502.4.2), and the maximum length of the exhaust duct is 35 feet from the connection to the transition duct from the dryer to the outlet terminal, reduced where fittings are used (M1502.4.5.1). An exception allows a total developed length of up to 55 feet when access panels for cleanouts and signage are provided: a cleanout panel for every 15 feet of length, within 12 inches of the second elbow and at every elbow thereafter, permanent signage identifying each cleanout panel, and permanent signage at the dryer exhaust connection "to inform occupants of the periodic inspection and cleaning requirements." The county's Mechanical Code (Chapter 1108), which adopts the 2015 International Mechanical Code with amendments, says in section 504.8.7 that multiple domestic dryers shall not be connected to a single exhaust system unless designed by a registered design professional. This page does not quote the 2015 model code itself.
