Cape Coral dryer vent code rules
The Cape Coral Building Division lists the Florida Building Code among the codes it enforces without naming an edition, and as of October 12, 2026, the Municode text we read of Article 12 of the city's Land Development Code still adopts the 2020 Florida Building Code family of codes. The International Code Council lists the 2023 Florida Building Code, Residential, Eighth Edition, with an effective date of Dec 31, 2023. The preface to the Florida Building Code says the code, developed and maintained by the Florida Building Commission, supersedes all local building codes and is updated every three years. The section numbers on this page are from the 2023 edition; we did not read the 2020 text.
Article 12 has sections amending the Building and Existing Building volumes and the International Property Maintenance Code, but no section amending the Residential volume, and none of it mentions dryers. The 2026 Florida Building Code, Residential, Ninth Edition, is listed with an effective date of Dec 31, 2026; its dryer duct length section (M1502.4.5.1) keeps the 35-foot maximum.
Under the 2023 Florida Building Code, Residential (Eighth Edition), a dryer exhaust duct can run at most 35 feet, minus an allowance for each elbow (M1502.4.5.1), or the length the dryer maker's installation instructions allow (M1502.4.5.2); the hose behind the dryer must be one listed piece of 8 feet or less (M1502.4.3); and the duct must end outside with a backdraft damper and no screen (M1502.3), and domestic booster fans are not allowed (M1502.4.8). Check a run with the dryer vent length calculator.

Cape Coral's House Bill 803 page says the state's new permit exemption for small residential projects under 7,500 dollars will not apply to most projects in the city, because more than 60% of Cape Coral is in a FEMA mapped Special Flood Hazard Area and electrical, plumbing, mechanical, gas and structural work are never exempt. Work may not begin until the city has reviewed and approved an exemption request.
In Cape Coral, plan reviews and inspections are conducted by the Building Division, which lists automated inspection scheduling at 855-636-2824 and inspection scheduling help at 239-573-3173. Customers who need help with the online permit portal can schedule a 30-minute appointment through the Virtual Line or use a public computer station at City Hall.
Through a partnership with the Cape Coral Fire Department Community Foundation and the American Red Cross, the Cape Coral Fire Department offers a free smoke alarm program for homes in the Cape Coral service area: team members test existing smoke alarms, change batteries in working ones and install new 10-year battery smoke alarms, and carbon monoxide alarms are available on request. The program does not replace hard-wired smoke alarms; visits are requested at (239) 242-3676, and the department says demand is high and scheduling may take a few days.

HomeGuide's ranges at the top of this page are national; the cost guide breaks them down by floor, problem and company. Warning signs are in signs of a clogged dryer vent.
